Austin Miller
Co-Owner | Pine Tree Jiu Jitsu
Austin Miller is a co-owner of Pine Tree Jiu Jitsu, where his mission is to build more than just a martial arts academy—he's creating a community where people of all ages and experience levels can grow in confidence, discipline, and skill through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Austin is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt with over ten years of dedicated training. He earned his black belt under Professor Alexey Cruz, whose emphasis on technical excellence, humility, and strong fundamentals continues to influence Austin's approach to teaching and mentoring students.
Austin believes that every student deserves a welcoming environment, quality instruction, and the opportunity to progress at their own pace. Whether someone is stepping onto the mats for the first time, looking to improve their fitness, helping their child build confidence, or training for competition, his goal is to make Brazilian Jiu Jitsu accessible, challenging, and rewarding for everyone.
In addition to Pine Tree Jiu Jitsu, Austin is the owner of Mami, a well-known Japanese restaurant in Portland, Maine. Building a successful business centered on hospitality and community has shaped the values he brings to the academy: professionalism, exceptional service, integrity, and making every member feel like family.
Austin's vision for Pine Tree Jiu Jitsu is to create Southern Maine's premier Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy—a place where beginners feel welcome, experienced practitioners continue to evolve, kids develop confidence and resilience, and lifelong friendships are built through training together.
"Jiu Jitsu changes lives—not just by teaching you how to fight, but by teaching you how to overcome challenges, support others, and never stop learning."
